Da oggi questo libro entra a far parte della mia wishlist, ovviamente da acquistare all'estero perchè qui in Italia - se tutto va bene, eh - arriverà tra qualche anno. Le foto sotto sono tratte dal libro e avrete visto, sono fantastiche. Si tratta di una storia per fotografie del grunge, nel suo periodo migliore, dal 1983 al 1993 circa , quello meno conosciuto e più genuino. Prima di mtv, insomma. In copertina non poteva che esserci Kurt.

Questo è un altro libro che ho acquistato di recente (http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ grazie di esistere): 120 pagine di foto stupende della scena punk e New Wave della west coast americana tra il '76 e il '78. Copertina patinata e le pagine interne nere. Semplicemente fantastico. Ci sono tutti, dai Dead Boys alle Runaways, dai Cramps ai Devo. In realtà si tratta di una ristampa con aggiunta di foto degli anni dal'78 all'80. L'originale venne pubblicato nel '78 e aveva una copertina stupenda, questa:

Ci sono dei libri che parlano di te, a volte sembrano conoscerti meglio di te stessa e ti aiutano a capire molti aspetti di te, ti aiutano, ti fanno sentire un pò meno sola...questo libro è uno di questi ("Memorie di una ragazza perbene" di Simone de Beauvoir è un'altro).

"Punk" here meant no mohawks and spikes but DIY: creating something from nothing, fashion from garbage, music and art from whatever was nearest at hand. DIY was a philosophy and a way of life, a touchstone that set its industrious adherent apart from the legions of Americans who passed their lives - as the punks saw it - trudging from TV set to first-run multiplex, from chain record store to commercial radio dial, treating art and culture as commodities to be consumed instead of vital forces to be struggled with and shaped, experimented with and created, breathed and lived.
